It is no accident that our vision is tuned to perceive
wavelengths the 600nm to 380nm range. If you look at the
wavelengths that penetrate our atmosphere and at the
strongest wavelengths radiated by the sun, this is the
optimal place to evolve vision. Our atmosphere blocks many
wavelengths of radiation from reaching the surface of the
earth. But the radio wavelength are nearly all passed.
Because radio waves pass through dust on other denser
materials, it is an ideal tool to see into the heart of
galaxies and into the dust obscured regions where stars are
forming.
