With demobilization at the end of the war, these surplus radars found their way into many university reseach labs. Equipment that would otherwise have been beyond the means of researchers was available for pennies on the dollar.

Modified radars did the pioneering radio astronomy work. They discovered the meteor radio scattering. Imaged the moon and performed the surveys of the sky at high and higher frequencies. These modified radar were the scouts that mapped our a new territory for astronomical observation.
